BARN CONVERSION

Whether you want to create a home on the farm or have a bigger project in mind, Class Q or Class R permitted development may allow you to convert an existing building, but navigating the complexities of these rights can be daunting.

Class Q permitted development rights allow for the conversion of agricultural buildings into up to 10 residential homes with a maximum combined floor space of 1000m2 and a maximum of 150m2 per dwelling.

Type R permitted development rights allow the conversion of agricultural buildings for flexible commercial use such as offices, shops, cafes or other light industrial use.

In both cases the building must be structurally capable of conversion and, as would be expected with such allowances, there are many criteria that must be met, with changes to the rules being brough in in May 2024.

Our specialists can help advise and guide you every step of the way from concept to conversion.
